Dit is niet nieuw voor veel kleinschalige vissers die gesloten seizoenen in hun activiteiten opnemen om de druk te verminderen op vissoorten zoals zeebaars en schartong die samenkomen op grote oevers om te paaien. Maar in veel gevallen worden deze paaibestanden door grotere schepen met gesleept vistuig gezien als een buitenkansje en staat gebrekkige regelgeving hen toe om kwetsbare soorten als \"onbedoelde bijvangst\" te vangen, terwijl ze daarvoor worden beloond met royale quota of carte blanche.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Een jaar geleden <a href=\"https:\/\/lifeplatform.eu\/nl\/wrong-gear-wrong-place-wrong-time-the-perverse-nature-of-high-impact-fishing\/\">we berichtten over de zaak<\/a> van de War Raog IV, een ringzegenvaartuig van 17 meter dat op een grote school Meagre was gestuit in de zuidelijke Golf van Biskaje, ter hoogte van Saint Jean de Luz.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Sindsdien werkt LIFE gestaag samen met een aantal Franse vissersverenigingen en NGO's om aan te dringen op het weren van grotere schepen zoals de War Raog IV uit de 6-zeemijlszone.
