LIFE heeft begin februari in Letland deelgenomen aan een startbijeenkomst voor het Round Goby project. Dit nieuwe project wordt geleid door een consortium van partners met als doel de ontwikkeling van een commerci\u00eble visserij op Round Goby - een invasieve soort - in de Oostzee. De belangrijkste partners zijn wetenschappelijke onderzoeksinstituten uit de hele regio, samen met lokale overheidsinstellingen, visverwerkers en visserijorganisaties zoals het Deense FSKPO, de Letse Vissersfederatie, de Poolse Darlowska Groep en het Zweedse SYEF. Tijdens de looptijd van het project zullen LIFE en zijn leden deelnemen aan de ontwikkeling van vistuig dat gericht is op de glasgrondel, testvisserij uitvoeren in verschillende gebieden van de Oostzee en beleidswerk verrichten met ambtenaren en lokale overheidsfunctionarissen om te bespreken wat nodig is voor de ontwikkeling van de visserij. Tijdens de startworkshop hadden de projectpartners de gelegenheid om elkaar persoonlijk te ontmoeten, de projectplanning door te nemen en te leren van de ervaringen van Letland, het enige land in de regio met een commerci\u00eble visserij op de ronde grondel.<\/span><\/p>\n
