Volgens Low Impact Fishers of Europe (LIFE) is dit een decennium geweest van gemiste kansen voor de kleinschalige visserij.<\/p>\n<p>\"Kleinschalige visserij maakt deel uit van de oplossing, niet van het probleem\", zegt Marta Cavall\u00e9, uitvoerend secretaris van LIFE. \"Artikel 17 van het GVB is een potenti\u00eble game changer, mits volledig ge\u00efmplementeerd. Door degenen die duurzamer vissen visrechten te geven in plaats van degenen die intensiever vissen, kunnen visserijbeheerders de manier waarop we in Europa vissen veranderen. Dit is de kern van artikel 17\".<\/p>\n<p>Artikel 17 van het gemeenschappelijk visserijbeleid (GVB) van 2013 biedt een kans om de Europese visserij te sturen in de richting van de toekomst die wordt beoogd in de Europese Green Deal en VN-doelstelling 14b inzake duurzame ontwikkeling: klimaatneutraal, economisch levensvatbaar, sociaal rechtvaardig, ecologisch duurzaam en eerlijk voor kleinschalige visserij. LIFE roept de lidstaten, de Europese Commissie en de leden van het Europees Parlement dan ook op om de kans te grijpen om artikel 17 van het GVB volledig ten uitvoer te leggen en zo de weg vrij te maken voor een duurzame visserij en bloeiende kustgemeenschappen. Hiervoor zouden de lidstaten transparante en objectieve criteria van ecologische, sociale en economische aard moeten ontwikkelen en publiceren en zou de Europese Commissie richtsnoeren en een gedetailleerd uitvoeringsplan moeten opstellen, waarbij de lidstaten jaarlijks verslag moeten uitbrengen over de geboekte vooruitgang.<\/p>\n<p>\"Je behandelt dingen die verschillend zijn niet op dezelfde manier\", zegt de Portugese europarlementslid Jo\u00e3o Pimenta Lopes, auteur van de onlangs aangenomen parlementaire resolutie over kleinschalige visserij in de EU en toekomstperspectieven. LIFE dringt er bij de wetgevers op aan om de aanbevelingen van deze resolutie op te volgen en te kiezen voor een gedifferentieerde aanpak van het beheer van kleinschalige en grootschalige visserij, zoals uiteengezet in de \"Call to Action\" van LIFE. De kleinschalige visserij in Europa zorgt voor 50% van de banen op zee en vertegenwoordigt 70% van de vloot. Ze vertegenwoordigt echter slechts 6% van de EU-vangst, wat de geringe impact van deze activiteit weerspiegelt.<\/p>\n<p>Over Low Impact Fishers of Europe (LIFE)<\/p>\n<p>Het Low Impact Fishers of Europe (LIFE) Platform is een Europawijd platform van 32 aangesloten verenigingen uit 15 lidstaten, die ongeveer 10.000 kleinschalige vissers vertegenwoordigen die zich inzetten voor visserij met een lage impact.
