Vissers leveren een hero\u00efsche strijd en zetten hun leven op het spel om voedsel op onze tafels te krijgen.<\/p>\n<p>Desondanks hebben afsluitings- en sanitaire maatregelen de markten in binnen- en buitenland gesloten, wat een verwoestende impact heeft gehad. De EU heeft ingegrepen door wijzigingen aan te brengen in het EFMZV 2014-2020, waardoor onbestede middelen kunnen worden gebruikt om tijdelijke stopzetting van activiteiten en opslagsteun te ondersteunen. <strong>De lidstaten reageren op verschillende manieren op de crisis<\/strong>Sommige met uitgebreide pakketten maatregelen, zoals in het Verenigd Koninkrijk en Itali\u00eb. Andere landen, zoals Ierland en Cyprus, doen weinig. In Ierland wordt opslagsteun verleend terwijl de autoriteiten op zoek gaan naar ongebruikte EVF-middelen. We hebben gehoord dat de autoriteiten in Cyprus hebben gereageerd met het verstrekken van subsidies voor tijdelijke stopzetting.<\/p>\n<p>LIFE-leden van de<strong> Zygi Vissersvereniging in Cyprus<\/strong> hebben ons op de hoogte gehouden over hoe het eiland de #COVID19 storm bestrijdt: \"De situatie in Zygi is verwoestend voor de vissers. Om te voldoen aan de afsluitingsmaatregelen van de overheid werd de plaatselijke markt die vis aan restaurants verkoopt gesloten en moesten sommige vissers hun activiteiten staken. Er is een andere vismarkt waar we gewoonlijk vis verkopen, maar die kan onze vangst niet meer kopen. <strong>De nationale overheid heeft 1000 euro aangeboden<\/strong> per maand aan vaartuigen die bereid zijn aan te meren tijdens de lockdown. Sommige vissers vroegen deze financi\u00eble hulp aan, maar anderen weigerden. Ambtenaren zeggen dat dit het maximum is dat ze kunnen doen, maar we zijn er zeker van dat er meer gedaan zou kunnen worden, hoewel we op dit moment <strong>hebben geen informatie over de vraag of de regering in staat zal zijn om deze hulp te verhogen<\/strong>. De haven ziet er behoorlijk deprimerend uit. De boten van de vissers die hun werk hebben opgeschort, zijn door de visserijdienst aan de ketting gelegd.
