These Working Groups function to consult with stakeholders and to provide recommendations to the European Commission on the development of an Energy Transition Roadmap. One of the key questions raised by the Support Group is how the energy transition, described in the Roadmap, is to be funded.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the last High-level meeting \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Navigating Change: Towards the Energy Transition in the EU<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d held in Brussels last 17<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of February, <strong>Ms. Charlina Vitcheva, Director-General of DG Mare, announced that the EMFAF Regulation on sectoral support was to be amended to include provisions on the energy transition.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LIFE welcomes the announcement as timely and much needed, but <strong>urges caution given the potential risks of including capacity enhancing subsidies.<\/strong> Given that the public funds available are very limited, these should be prioritised for <strong>supporting environmental and social justice,<\/strong> whilst avoiding their use to provide subsidies that could be harmful.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LIFE has sent it\u2019s views on <strong>how the use of EMFAF should be prioritised for supporting the just transition of the small-scale fishing sector, with proposals for amendments.<\/strong> These proposals are also aligned with the Recommendations the SSF Working Group made in the Energy Transition Partnership.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lifeplatform.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/EN_Targeted-amendments-EMFAF_LIFE_FINAL.pdf\">Access LIFE position here<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LIFE is the Coordinator of the Working Group on Small-scale Fisheries, one of 10 Working Groups that contribute to the Energy Transition Partnership Support Group.
