The leaked draft of the Pact lacks the urgency, balance, and social equity needed to meet the scale of today&#8217;s coastal challenges.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"810\" data-end=\"1085\">The letter stresses that small-scale fisheries (SSF)\u2014a sector critical to coastal livelihoods and marine stewardship\u2014are at a tipping point due to increasing pressures and insufficient policy support. LIFE warns that without targeted action, this vital sector risks collapse.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1087\" data-end=\"1107\">Key demands include:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1108\" data-end=\"1427\">\n<li data-start=\"1108\" data-end=\"1205\">\n<p data-start=\"1110\" data-end=\"1205\"><strong>A dedicated SSF Action Plan<\/strong> to safeguard the future of small-scale fisheries across Europe.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1206\" data-end=\"1323\">\n<p data-start=\"1208\" data-end=\"1323\"><strong data-start=\"1208\" data-end=\"1260\">Recognition of the often invisible role of women<\/strong> in the sector, which is notably absent from the current draft.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1324\" data-end=\"1427\">\n<p data-start=\"1326\" data-end=\"1427\"><strong data-start=\"1326\" data-end=\"1349\">Stronger safeguards<\/strong> for ocean ecosystems, especially as new blue economy industries are promoted.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1429\" data-end=\"1860\">&#8220;The Ocean Pact must be fair to fishers, fair to future generations, and fair to nature,&#8221; writes LIFE Executive Secretary, Marta Cavall\u00e9.
