{"id":19758,"date":"2022-05-17T07:16:37","date_gmt":"2022-05-17T07:16:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lifeplatform.eu\/?p=19758"},"modified":"2024-04-23T07:22:56","modified_gmt":"2024-04-23T07:22:56","slug":"life-replies-to-eu-consultation-on-eel-management","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifeplatform.eu\/ma\/life-replies-to-eu-consultation-on-eel-management\/","title":{"rendered":"LIFE replies to EU consultation on eel management"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Earlier this year the EU sought advice and recommendations from stakeholders regarding eel management <\/span>after <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ices.dk\/sites\/pub\/Publication%20Reports\/Forms\/DispForm.aspx?ID=38321\">ICES provided advice<\/a> <\/span>on the European eel stock in November 2021 recommending catches be halted.<\/div>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In response to this, LIFE has together with member organisations\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-GB\">participated in developing a<\/span> <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bsac.dk\/getattachment\/ff026f8b-1bb9-461f-8bdb-2bb85dcc71d9\/BSACChairLetterandrecseel22-23_5Complete.pdf.aspx?lang=en-GB\">joint position through the Baltic Sea Advisory Council<\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0as well as publishing our<\/span> <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/lifeplatform.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/220505-eel-factsheet-final-with-logos.pdf\">own position<\/a><\/span> which details measures\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-GB\">on improving the state of the eel stock while also keeping the fishery open.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We focus on what we consider to be the most effective measures: improved implementation of the eel regulation and prioritising restrictions where eel mortality is highest.
