Prema Brianu O&#039;Riordanu, savjetniku za politiku programa LIFE: \u201cDekarbonizacija ribarskog sektora do odre\u0111ene je mjere utrka s vremenom, a tro\u0161kovi trenutno predstavljaju nepremostivu prepreku ve\u0107ini malih subjekata \u010dije bilance svjedo\u010de o sve manjoj profitabilnosti. Projekt je zamisao Hansa Unklesa, obalnog ribara s otoka Skye na \u0161kotskim Hebridima koji je standardni Cygnus 21 \u2013 ribarsko plovilo od stakloplastike duga\u010dko 6,5 metara \u2013 pretvorio s dizelskog na potpuno elektri\u010dni pogon.<\/p>\n<p>S ciljem neto nulte emisije u cijeloj Europi za sve aspekte gospodarstva u energetskom smislu, razmatranje potpuno elektri\u010dnih ribarskih plovila od posebne je va\u017enosti za manju flotu - s obzirom na malo prakti\u010dnih alternativnih energetskih rje\u0161enja koja su trenutno dostupna.<\/p>\n<p>U trenutku pisanja ovog teksta, tro\u0161kovi prenamjene postoje\u0107eg plovila na elektri\u010dni pogon ili izgradnje novog predstavljaju glavno ograni\u010denje razvoja, iako \u0107e se tro\u0161kovi neizbje\u017eno smanjivati kako inicijative postanu rasprostranjenije.
